Dan Antoniu
Composer, Engineer, Sound Artist
As a composer, engineer, and sound artist, Dan Antoniu’s music prioritizes gesture, perception, and electronics. Using many mediums, Dan has worked with large ensembles, chamber ensembles, and soloists in acoustic and electroacoustic settings utilizing digital signal processing and fixed media. He’s created multichannel and stereo pieces and made installations focused around resonance, memory, and light. Dan has also been developing a performance practice focused on extended voice, bowed guitar, found objects, and augmented instruments.
His music has been performed internationally in Italy, Canada, and France, as well as in New York, Boston, Michigan, Oregon, and Ohio. Dan’s music has been performed by notable ensembles such as Apply Triangle Trio, Quartetto Raro, Combustible Ensemble, the Purchase New Music Ensemble, and Dakota State High School’s Saxophone Ensemble. He has performed his music at the Neuberger Museum of Art, State University of New York Purchase, Bowling Green State University, ARTS X Festival, and the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice.
After Dan graduated from the State University of New York Purchase (BM) in 2019, he completed a Masters of Music from Bowling Green State University in 2021. In school, Dan studied with Du Yun, Elainie Lillios, Mikel Kuehn, Gregory Spears, Nicolas Sherzinger, and Laura Kaminsky. He’s attended or had music played at the festivals: A P N É E S's PAYSAGES series, SPLICE, Soundscape, Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, and Snow Pond. As an engineer he has worked with artists and organizations such as Solungga Liu, Harsh Narayan, Deux Saisons, Humay Gasimzade, The Music Thief, Quartetto Raro, New Canaan Public Schools, Praecepta, Trinity Church, The Movement Church of Toledo, and the Music Teachers National Association: BGSU Collegiate Chapter.
